Last spring our boiler stopped working properly. Instead of turning on and staying on, it would turn on, then turn off, then turn on again in rapid succession. We didn't do much about it because, at the time, we didn't need to use it anymore. Then the long, beautiful, hot summer came along and we completely forgot about it. Around October when we had the two or three days of cooler weather (OK, it was only in the 50's. At night.) I reminded Art to call the furnace guy. Turns out we need a new heat exchanger because the one that's in there was installed incorrectly (surprise, surprise. I guess that's only funny if you knew the previous owners) and it's all rusted and corroded. Great. Well, at least I don't need a new boiler!
This was five weeks ago. Every week since then I have reminded Art to call the guy, but because it wasn't cold, Art did not make it a priority. I kept telling Art that winter would be here before he knew it, and if he waited until it got cold to call the guy, he might be super busy or it could take weeks to get the part we need and before you know it, it's December and I can't get out of bed because it's so cold and the pipes are frozen. Art kept saying, "we have the wood stove!" and I kept saying, "if you promise to stay home all day to keep the home fires burning as well as waking up every two hours to stoke the fire, I won't nag you anymore."
Art finally called the furnace guy and (amazing!) he has to order the part. What's even better is that the company has to build the heat exchanger first, so it'll be at least a week before we get it. So, it's going to be at least two weeks before our boiler is up and running. See? December.
Last night it was 20 degrees. When I woke up, my house was at 49 degrees. I was not a happy camper and proceeded to say, "I told you so", several times to Art. It wasn't my best moment.

You are TOTALLY the kind of customers my plumbing/hvac husband likes to complain about...the ones that don't do anything about their lack of heat until it is freezing out (at least you guys KNEW your boiler wasn't working). At least you didn't demand your heating guys come over in the middle of the night and fix it.
PS Please post pics next time you have a flock of seagulls party. :)
