Having finished with the pumpkin butter, I realized that it was the only thing I had left to can. It was a good year for canning, despite the weather. I was able to put up stewed tomatoes, ketchup, cherry jam, strawberry jam, strawberry sauce, watermelon jelly, apple pie filling, apple butter and pumpkin butter. It's a good thing I have nothing left to do, because I'm out of shelf space. The watermelon jelly has yet to set, but considering it can take three months for my jams to set, it might still be useable. Otherwise I'll just dump it- no one wants watermelon sauce and I can always use the jars.
A lot of this we will eat, but more will be given as gifts at Christmastime and throughout the year. Some might consider these gifts 'cheap', but I consider them homemade gifts of goodness, straight from my heart*.*I know- I, too, gagged a little when I wrote that.
