And Then There Were Two...

Yesterday we bid our farewells to Keller. He never quite recovered from his bout with the worms, which leads us to believe he had something else going on. We paid a guy thirty six dollars to come and take him to the sale barn. I feel a little dishonest sending a sickly cow to market, but I certainly wasn't going to eat him. Perhaps someone will see him and pity his small stature and sickly demeanor and will take him home and nurse him back to health...

Keller

We're still not entirely sure if Helen is knocked up or not. Peggy keeps trying to suckle milk and Helen doesn't appear to be in heat anymore, but we'll find out in a couple of months. If she doesn't turn out to be preggers then we will stick her in the freezer. Because the Angus breeds tend to be more skittish, we've decided to head in the direction of holsteins. They have a much nicer disposition, calve more easily and, while not usually used for beef, have a leaner meat that is just as tasty as Angus. You really have to be careful when you go in the pen with Helen; she always looks at you like, "I will kill you. Just give me the chance."
