Garden Round-Up

Another gardening season is over and my garden did very well despite the drought.  I cleaned out the tomato and pepper plants a couple of weeks ago; I could have gotten a few more weeks out of them, but I decided that I was finished and didn't cover them when we had a couple of nights of frost.  Here's how the season turned out:

  • 8 half pints of violet jelly
  • 18 half pints of dandelion jelly
  • 31 pints of ketchup
  • 30 half pints of apple butter
  • 7 quarts of apple pie filling
  • 4 gallon bags of strawberries
  • 4 gallon bags of green peppers
  • 4 gallon bags of sweet corn
  • Lots of onions
Considering how hot and dry the season was I have a lot of produce stored up for the winter.  I didn't include the Brussels sprouts as they are still out there- the plants are beautiful but have yet to produce any sprouts.  I'm hoping with all the rain we had this weekend that it will give them a boost (but I could also do without the smell- somewhere between boiling cabbage and something that has been dead for three days- of blanching them before putting them in the freezer.)
