I haven't actively weeded my garden all season; here and there I would pick a stray weed, but I haven't gone out the to the garden with the sole purpose of weeding. Whether due to the drought or the thick layer of hay there just hasn't been the need. But with the two inches of rain we had a week or so ago, the weeds finally made an appearance. Please know that I am not complaining as I have no reason to do so. I'm just telling you what I did yesterday.
The garden is looking really nice. Even the two or three tomato plants I had intended to pull up due to their lack of production (and what they did produce was rotten) have blossomed into beautiful plants with nary a rotten tomato. The Brussels sprouts are coming along and even the green peppers are doing better. The pumpkins, however, are not doing very well. I have two main vines and the vine growing my solitary, very large, pumpkin, has died. It's not a great loss as I have more than enough pumpkin butter to last me until next year, but I'm extremely annoyed by the fact that this pumpkin
is not a pie pumpkin. It can't be. Here is my evidence:

My "pie" pumpkin |

An actual pie pumpkin |
So you can see, it is obviously not a pie pumpkin. Whatever. It's fine. I'm over it. One vine is still going strong but it has yet to produce any pumpkins, which is fine by me. It's not like I can keep them until Halloween so that all the people that don't drive by and all the children who have never trick-or-treated at our house will see them.
