Third cut is done! It's about six weeks earlier than usual, but the alfalfa and clover were all in bloom (no grass, though) and that's the good stuff. Art cut hay on Wednesday with the intention of baling it Saturday, but by Friday afternoon it was so dry it needed to be baled otherwise all the leaves would fall off and it would be mostly stems. A friend of ours came over to help since I was still at work. This has been the best hay season yet- not a single crop was rained on and I have only had to bale once!
Because there was so little grass and the alfalfa and clover were fairly short, it was only a single load. We unloaded the wagon Saturday morning and I was grateful for the 80 light bales (as opposed to 240 heavy bales). Turns out it was a good thing Art baled on Friday as a nasty storm rolled through Saturday afternoon.
Because third cut was so early, it's entirely possible that we will get a fourth cut sometime in September- but that's only if we get some more rain!
