Happy Cows, Happy People

It's that time of year, with a little rain and a lot of warm weather, that the grass starts growing faster than I can keep up with the mowing.  We've taken our time mowing this year, letting it grow, mowing, and gathering up the clippings to feed the cows.  I need a good seven or eight hours to mow everything on our little farm, and most weekends I don't have an entire day to devote to just making the yard look nice (nor do I want to devote an entire day making the yard look nice).  This year Art had the bright idea to put up shock wire around the buildings and along our tree line so that the cows could go and eat their fill.  He wanted to put up shock wire around the house so we could eliminate all mowing, but last summer Ferdi developed a taste for my hostas as well as knocking over my bird bath (every single time!), so I said 'no' to that idea.  It's wonderful; the cows are quiet- so quiet you would never know we had cows, they're content because all they do is eat, and we cut our mowing down by several hours.

 Happy cows!
