When Art came in (he was out gathering wood for what felt like forever) he was completely unaffected by the mouse in the dog food and went as far to open the lid, peer closely and say, "I think something is wrong with him- he looks pretty rough and he's not scared." I explained that he's a country mouse and it's a mouse-eat-mouse world out there, but I also think the mouse may have had some sort of mental disability. Or else he was just really, really brash. He just sat there, nibbling on dog food without a care in the world- he barely moved when I almost scooped him up. I really don't appreciate that kind of behavior- at least attempt to scamper!
Art scooped him up in a yogurt container (my hero!) and put in the chicken coop because the chickens love mice (to eat). But apparently the chickens were full and didn't feel like mouse so he was able to scamper away to live another day.Saturday, January 8, 2011
Country Mice
We keep Buddy's dog food in a plastic container with a lid to keep the mice out (which, apparently, we didn't put on tightly the day before). The other night I went to fill up Buddy's bowl and, without even looking, started to scoop some food into his dish. It was then I noticed a little gray, beady-eyed ball of fur. I screamed like a little girl and slammed the lid back on to the container. I then realized that while the mouse had successfully gotten into the container, he could not get back out, giving me ample opportunity to take a picture with no threat of him leaping out and crawling up my pant leg. I got a new camera for Christmas and it has 10x zoom, which came in handy because I could stand about five feet away and just zoom in on the mouse.
