Continuing my theme of 1960's crafty homemaker, I just have to say that I hate curtains. Well, I don't hate
curtains, just the act of picking out curtains as I usually go through 549 different styles and/or colors before I find something that I can live with. Notice "live with", not "love". Anyway, I wanted 'winter' curtains for our bedroom because there is always a prevailing North or West wind that blows right through the glass and the thin (because they were clearance) curtains we have do nothing to block the frigid air. I looked at insulated curtains, but I just couldn't justify spending a small fortune for a single panel. I mean, you could feed a small country with what they were charging! Then I read that Joanne's Fabrics was having a sale on fleece and I thought, Why not make fleece curtains? So I bought a bolt of blue fleece (7.6 yards cost less than one panel of the insulated curtains!), and because I don't have a sewing machine (I don't know how to work them and they're expensive for the one or two times a year I might need it) I was going to have my friend
Mary sew a rod pocket. Then life got in the way, and the weather was getting progressively colder, so I decided to cut one end into two-inch strips and tie them around the rod, much like those fleece tie blankets. It was a super easy project, and I was able to use some leftover fleece to make tie-backs. I had calculated and measured each panel to use the entire bolt, but I still ended up with about two feet left over. The ends are a little uneven due to the fact that I only own one pair of children's scissors and I used a heavy duty tape measure to make what are surely inaccurate measurements, but I think it adds to the quaintness of the room.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
They turned out pretty darn cute, if I do say so myself.
