Sprouts and Things

These were the five lone pumpkins that grew down on the compost pile. I think this is all I will get because the vines all have powdery mildew. I'm not sure what I'll do with only five small pumpkins, but I'm grateful I won't have a repeat of Pumpkin Madness!

I was delighted, however, to finally succeed at Brussels sprouts. I have tried growing them for five years. That's right, F-I-V-E years. Either they don't grow at all, or they get to be five feet tall but never grow any sprouts. But here's the thing: I hate Brussels sprouts. Actually, I hate all cabbage but especially Brussels sprouts. Art, on the other hand, loves them, so I will freeze them so that he can fill my kitchen with the smell of boiled cabbage all winter long.
