Poor Bloated Ray
We almost lost Ray, today. Art went outside and saw Ray, laying on his side, looking like roadkill that had been in the heat for several days, bloated like a balloon. This can happen if cows eat too rich of hay, for some reason the gas builds up in their stomachs but doesn't move out. Art tried inserting a tube down Ray's throat, and then up the other side, but wasn't successful. He called the vet and he came out with a special kind of tube and worked it down Ray's throat. Within minutes Ray was back chewing on his cud like nothing happened. We put some baking soda in his water and giving him hay that's not as rich, but the vet left a needle for Art to use if Ray bloats again. Hopefully we won't have to use it but Art assures me he knows just where to stick the needle to relieve the gas build up. I sure am glad Art knows what he's doing because I'm not sure I would be able to!
