My fridge was being taken over by tomatoes and I was tired of piling things on top of them for lack of room. They weren't the Romas, they were the sandwhich-style and there are only so many sandwiches, salads, omelets, etc. that you can make with tomatoes. I gave some to parents, but three out of eighty doesn't really help me. Google told me that I could can them just like I would Romas; While Roma tomatoes are meatier and better for making ketchups, soups, sauces, etc., the sandwich (Big Boy and others) are more juicy. So I made really juicy stewed tomatoes today. I had wanted to put them in pint jars, but all I had were quarts which shouldn't be a problem since I will use them a lot this winter in stew and chili. I'm just glad I have the lower shelf of my fridge back!

Another Weekend Past
It was yet another busy weekend here. Saturday was laundry which always takes time. It was so much nicer when Art wore a uniform that was cleaned by a laundry service but now he goes through clothes like you wouldn't believe. Something about not wanting to be stinky and sweaty all the time... I made a lot of ketchup (which is, like, a five hour process) and cleaned the house (I'll give credit to Art for vaccuming). My parents came over Sunday morning after settling my sister at college in Indiana. We had a wonderful breakfast, thanks to the Tipton Family Restaurant, and a wonderful visit. Art mowed and weed-wacked; we should make hay from our yard. He also worked on the many irons he has in many fires.

Looking at the picture, it's hard to believe that I canned eighty-plus very large tomatoes... But I did. Honestly.
