Last night I was brought back from the brink of sleep by a soft fluttering near my head. I woke up Art and he said, "I think it's a bat." I turned my head and noticed a dark protrusion on the curtain, but without my glasses it was hard to tell if it was a bat or just the lay of the fabric. I wasn't taking any chances so I slowly (as I didn't want to startle the thing and have it get tangled in my hair) pulled my blankets over my head and cowered. Art got out of bed, turned the lights on and said, "whatever you do, don't move"; which is not something that keeps me calm or brings me peace of mind. He caught the bat and took him outside and I thought good, now I can go back to sleep. Art then tells me that when he turned the lights on and told me not to move, the bat had moved from the curtain to my pillow and was approximately six inches from my head.
Needless to say it took me awhile to get to sleep as I pictured bats attempting to be my sleeping companion.
