We recieved our pullets in the mail today. When I say 'pullet', I don't mean 'a chicken about to start earning her keep by laying eggs', I mean 'day old chicks that I didn't order'. That's right, the hatchery, instead of telling me they don't mail the older chickens, made the executive decision to just send me day old chicks. I called the company but the girl kept telling me "we only send day old chicks". I kept asking her why no one told me this and yet still charged me the price of the older pullets and all she could say was, "we only send day old chicks". They will be living in a box in the dining room until it gets warmer (yes, I do know they sell a thing called a 'heat lamp' but I'm afraid to burn down the barn). People really like coming to my house when it smells like sh*t. So now I have sixteen day old chicks that won't start laying for another five to eight months; just in time for the temperatures and the egg laying to drop dramatically.
Anyone want some day old chicks? They're awfully cute!! Buy some for the kids!
