Monster Dog

After the groundhog incident we thought it would be a good idea to finally put in a dog door. Like, a real dog door- not one that Art fashioned out of foam, duct tape, and refrigerator curtains.  Don't get me wrong, that dog door served its purpose for eight years and we never had an issue, but the curtains started to warp and one broke off, leaving a gaping hole that any creature (like, say, a groundhog) could venture through.  After a few days of researching dog doors I found one I liked- double curtained to keep out the elements and groundhogs (that wasn't part of the real description).  And while I measured the opening of our door and bought the size that would supposedly be slightly larger (since it's easier to make a hole larger than it is to make it smaller), obviously my measurements were inaccurate.

Before

After

As you can see, the new dog door is quite a bit larger than the original...almost to the point that it's excessive. But it does have it's benefits- an insurance salesmen stopped by the house to talk to Art and mentioned that he stopped by once before and noticed the very large dog door. Thinking that he didn't want to meet the monster of a dog that obviously lived there, he thought it better to come by when he could see people in the yard.

We also removed the screen door- there was no way we could have the dog door and the screen door. Besides, the screen door was beaten up it made us look like common trash.

So here's hoping that we have seen the last of unwanted critters (really just groundhogs) in the house!
