At some point on Saturday the BM came and dropped off the new heat exchanger- why he didn't stay and install it, I'll never know. I finally relented to Art, as well. I was all psyched to call the BM and find out why the hell I don't have heat and I even had the number to call someone else but as Art pointed out, he did bring the part over. He also explained that he really, really wanted this guy to work on it because the BM was more than happy show Art how to install it and how the boiler works. As he said, "I just have to know how everything works" and I couldn't argue with such a sweet and emphatic sentiment.
That was all shot to hell today as Art came home and found the BM and another guy installing the new heat exchanger. This sounds good, right? Amazing! Still no heat as they found that the gas valve wasn't working, only to find that it still didn't work when they installed a new one. Apparently they ran into 'electrical problems' and will have to come back tomorrow.
Since Art wasn't home to keep the homefires burning all day (not his fault, he does have to work to pay for this outrageously expensive heat exchanger. Plus whatever 'electrical problems' cost. And labor.), I went to bed early as it was the only warm place in the house. If you need me, you can find me under the six blankets. You'll probably have to dig awhile, but I'm there.
