Farewell, My Blind, Fat Friend

Poor Blind Ray was sent to the locker yesterday morning- all 1402 pounds of him. It took us quite a bit of time to get him in the trailer because he was scared and blind and couldn't see where he was supposed to go. We finally had to strap a gate to the front of the loader tractor and herd him into the trailer.

It's nice to have him gone because he was kind of a bully and would push the other cows around; Even Ferdi was afraid of him. It is also nice to be able to go into the pen without having to watch my back in case Ray decides to run in my general direction.
Of course, now that Ferdi is the top dog he's getting a little pushy with the other calves. All we have to do is yell, "Ferdi!" and he stops, but I'm hoping that when the other calves grow larger that they'll give him a run for his money- he'll be outnumbered, after all.

Ferdi is so cute!
