More Misfits

I'd like to introduce you to the newest resident of The Island of Misfit Cows:

This is Ray, a three month old Black Angus bull (soon to be a steer). He had a terrible infection in both eyes (pink eye) and is now blind- hence the bulbous eyes as well as the name choice. Our friend, Josh, is well aware of our weakness for underprivileged and needy animals and instead of putting him down, he called Art. We treated him for the pink eye, for worms and also had him banded. This means they put a tight band around his testicles that cuts off the circulation so they will dry up and fall off. Nice, right?

Poor blind, ball-less Ray.

He seems very content, though, and much more even tempered than either Helen or Peggy. We have him penned in and he's been able to find his hay and water pretty easily. I'm not sure if we need to do anything special (i.e. farm-style blind school), but I figure as long as he can eat and drink, that's a good start.

Remember when I ordered the fifteen chickens and they sent me sixteen? At the time, I had assumed they did it in case one died. What I discovered was that they did send me fifteen hens, and the sixteenth was a rooster. Super. Great. I don't even like the one I have so I'm not sure what I will do with another. He's not fully grown yet but I'm sure he'll be gorgeous when he is so if anyone would like a rooster, let me know.

Free to a good home! I'll even through in another rooster for the same price! Two for the price of one! You can't beat that!

They seem to get along pretty well; actually they don't even acknowledge each other but just as long as they don't start fighting. The last thing I need is PETA pounding on my door and accusing me of cockfighting and then discovering our blind, banded and prolapsed cows. I shudder to think of what Pamela Anderson would say!
