I was out in the garden today and I picked the rest of the onions, so that's about three feet of garden I no longer have to deal with. I then mowed the grass that had begun to grow and I though, while I'm at it, I'll mow down the black beans, too. And so I did. I felt really good after I did it, too, because I really didn't want to dry them (since I couldn't find any recipes on how to can them. It's probably not hard, but it's easier to buy them in the store- blasphemy, I know!). I am going out now, to dig up Emily's potatoes so that will be another few feet I don't have to weed. Also, for whatever reason Emily's green beans have been utterly disappointing this year. I only planted a half of a row, knowing it's just the two of them. Two years ago I planted a whole row and I had beans coming out my ass and I still have a bunch frozen in the freezer. So far I have frozen, like, twelve bags, and the plants are starting to die off. Oh well, better luck next year!
I'm not sure what's going on with the tomatoes; they're huge bushes with a lot of green fruit on them, but they're not turning. I have a new type of cherry tomato that is not red, but orange. So for the last week I kept waiting for them to turn until I realized they were ready. I really have no idea what kind it is, I just took whatever my neighbor gave me. He knows more about tomatoes than anyone I know! Every year he tries to talk me into 156 different varieties, but all I ever get are Romas, a cherry, and some sort of sandwich tomato, and every year he resigns himself to my lack of tomato adventurous spirit.
