We had a very busy (and very productive!) weekend. The garden is planted; tomatos, green peppers, serrano peppers, brussel sprouts, black beans, green beans, watermelons and pie pumpkins as well as the onions and potatoes I planted a couple of weeks ago. I hadn't planned on growing pie pumpkins again this year (remember?) but the pumpkin butter was such a hit that I'm almost out. The garden is much smaller this year- last year was a bit overwhelming, so I pulled back the reins a little this year. Our neighbor and his son own Oak Hill Acres, an organic vegetable and flower farm. We have gotten our plants from him for the last two years and I have had wonderful (and plentiful) results. They're not all "hopped up on fertilizers", as he says, and that's exactly how we like it.
The stawberry patch is blooming and there are the beginnings of strawberries! Hopefully in another few weeks we'll have fresh strawberry jam (I'll save some for you, Keri!).
We also split wood this weekend. It was cool (hence the sweater) but it was a nice change; usually we split in the middle of winter when it's fifteen degrees outside. These were the latest batch of oak trunks that Art brought home. Somehow he got them all in the bed of his pickup (the 'beater' of course, not his baby) and it was about a ton and a half over weight... But it's all split and nicely stacked, ready for winter.
