My Life Before the Farm Part 2

As mentioned in the previous post, Art and met and lived in West Palm Beach, Florida. More specifically, we lived in a backwoods suburb called "Loxahatchee". Loxahatchee was a jumble of different groups; there were the wealthy people that had five acres surrounded by 12ft fences; a multitude of garden nurseries; people living in trailers; and, my personal favorite: Sunsport Gardens.

What is Sunsport Gardens, you ask? It's a nudist colony! Oh, I'm sorry, "naturalist community". I have never been there, but it was only about two miles down the road from where we lived. And no, I never saw any naked people, but only because it's set pretty far off the main road. While lobbying to incorporate Loxahatchee (now Loxahatchee Groves) they're was an open meeting held at Sunsport Gardens. I'll be honest and tell you that I am not mature enough to discuss incorporating a town while being surrounded by naked people.

(They have a square dance coming up, if anyone is interested)

Another fun landmark was only about a mile from where we lived. On the next road over, lived an actor that played the original Tarzan. Don't ask me which one because I have no idea. But he had a menagerie of animals- peacocks, lions, tigers, etc. You may remember hearing a few years ago that the lion escaped from his property and the police found it and shot it. It was a big deal. The neatest thing was that on cool mornings, you could hear the lion making noise, even from a mile away. It was pretty cool.
